Winner of British Construction Industry Award

We’re delighted that alongside our partners (Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, Archus, Mott MacDonald, Hoare Lea, BDP (Building Design Partnership Ltd), and Welsh Rugby Union), our work in delivering essential Covid services has been awarded a High Commendation in the ‘Social Infrastructure Project of the Year’ category at the British Construction Industry Awards 2021.

In 2019, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board urgently needed to increase hospital bed capacity in just 30 days ahead of an expected surge in Covid-19 cases. Q5 joined a consortium to help deliver the project, supporting the development of the Programme Management Office, coordinating workstreams, risks and interdependencies, driving rapid delivery and enabling the transformation of the Principality Stadium into the Dragon’s Heart Hospital in time.

Judges comments:

“The judges recognised this project for outstanding achievement, delivering essential Covid services – a 300 bed overspill hospital in 11 days.  This was only possible because of streamlined governance processes, an investment in exceptional communication between all the partners working on the project and adopting working practices and behaviour from the events industry, who are well used to standing up complex projects in days, then dismantling them again.  The judges felt that this project’s legacy would be some profound learning to inform successful delivery in other projects, and for this reason, we commend this scheme”.
