The Challenge

Balfour Beatty Highways had developed their first Digital Strategy and were under pressure to begin implementation. Q5 were engaged to review the digital strategy, and perform a digital maturity assessment of the organisation.

Our Approach

  • We interviewed a cross section of Balfour Beatty leadership to assess the digital maturity of the organisation against our Digital Fundamentals, and then review the Digital Strategy.
  • To define the digital maturity, 20 interviews were conducted, ranking responses based on our Digital Fundamentals, thus providing a holistic picture of the current maturity.
  • The Digital Strategy was then reviewed in working sessions with the leadership as well as via desk based research.
  • The work culminated in a playback workshop with the leadership. Q5 then facilitated on defining the core future focus areas, implementation priorities and an overview of the roll-out.

Key Outcomes

  • A clear view of Highways’ digital maturity, with priority areas highlighted for improvement.
  • A review of the Digital Strategy and clear guidance on how to get it fit for purpose, ahead of implementation.
  • Alignment and agreement of key stakeholders on the need for further work and investment for successful Digital Transformation.
