The Challenge

Western NSW (WNSW) Local Health District (LHD) has faced significant challenges with employee engagement and workplace well-being over the last two years. WNSW LHD recently developed their “More Good Days at Work” people strategy which was based on previous work by Q5 and the recent PMES results.

A priority in the people strategy was to develop their leaders and equip them to positively shape employee wellbeing and engagement – in order to increase the performance of the LHD and deliver exceptional health care.

Q5 was invited to co-design and deliver a leadership program first to the LHD Executive Group and then to their top 60 leaders, that would enable them to be better equipped to support each other and their staff in relation to wellbeing and resilience.

Our Approach

Working closely with the Director for People & Culture, we designed and delivered a program that consisted of:

  • A ‘Leadership Impact’ psychometric assessment and 1:1 debrief
  • Two half-day workshops: the first session focused on the business case for wellbeing and reflecting on the leaders’ impact on their people’s wellbeing and engagement; the second session took the leaders through a range of tools and techniques to improve their individual and team’s wellbeing and resilience
  • A series of coaching sessions following the workshops, to set and work through their individual and collective actions – i.e. putting in place the wellbeing and resilience strategies and techniques

Key Outcomes

  • Enabling the Executives to choose the most effective leadership style.
  • Executives are better equipped to support their teams and have a greater awareness of how they impact employees’ well-being, resilience and engagement and how they can keep pressure positive.
  • We ran train the trainer sessions with the WSNSW LHD org development team and invited them to co-facilitate parts of the program with the second cohort, so that they are upskilled and able to cascade the program throughout the rest of the organisation.

What our clients say about us

“I have heard nothing but positive feedback from the team about the sessions. A number of them have reached out to me specifically to comment on how much they’ve reflected so far and how useful they found both the psychometric tool/ debrief and the workshop conversations”
