The Challenge

As part of its ambition to ‘open tennis up’, The LTA wanted to review its whole system of tennis coaching and funding to identify areas of underperformance, areas of over/under investment and general opportunities for improvement.  

At the time, the coaching offering was disjointed and lacked a clear and consistent strategy, so the LTA wanted to create a model to deliver the maximum possible impact in the future. 

Our Approach

  • Through a combination of qualitative interviews and in-depth data analysis, we created a clear picture of the current funding and coaching landscape 
  • Modelled different funding scenarios to determine levers to improve performance, informed by competitor benchmarking 
  • Facilitated workshops with the leadership team to develop a refreshed vision and success factors 
  • Presented all findings to the senior management team, and then facilitated a series of workshops to talk about where we want to get to and key opportunities

Key Outcomes

  • Visual representation of existing coaching model with identified pain points
  • A revised vision for coach education with how it is delivered
  • Clear set of actionable opportunities for improvement identified and impact of each assessed, along with a prioritized action plan, which have subsequently been implemented (e.g. bring assessment in house)
  • All recommendations socialised and tested with key stakeholders ensuring they were bought into findings and way forward
  • Support for the LTA on the next steps needed to successfully embed the recommendations
