As part of Shell’s global enterprise-wide transformation to prepare for the energy transition and achieve its net-zero emissions ambition, a new organisation was created within Trading & Supply (T&S) called Data and Digital. Within this, the Data Foundations team was tasked with ensuring strong data governance and quality, managing data across its lifecycle, and maximising its value for T&S.
However, as a newly formed team, the structure, roadmap, and approach to implementing effective data governance, quality, and literacy were not yet established. Q5 was engaged to create the roadmap, frameworks, and tools to enable Data Foundations to deliver on its purpose.
Q5 worked closely with the Data Foundations team to operationalise and embed best practices tailored to Shell’s enterprise-wide objectives and T&S’s unique operating environment. Key steps included:
